PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Design a spread layout of a recipe with original photography.

ROLE:
Page Layout, Photographer

TOOLS USED:
Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop
PERSONAL GOALS
I wanted to gain more experience with photography and  have practice with staging and editing the photos. I thought choosing a recipe for a cocktail would help me reflect my stylistic staging choices and the overall look I was going for.  I also had creative control on the layout and typefaces which helped reflect my minimalistic taste.

MOODBOARD
I started off by making a moodboard and had a certain color palette and theme for the photos I wanted to take. I chose colors complementing the main colors of the drink and fonts that would pair well with the style I chose. Since I knew the photos I was taking  wouldn't be the exact same so I used it more for guidance than direct inspiration.
PROCESS
Photography & Editing
For the initial step, I carefully staged my drink with ingredients and other trinkets around my home that I felt paired well together. Using just my iPhone, I experimented with various angles and compositions until I captured the perfect shots. Once I selected the best shots, I utilized Photoshop to refine them further. This involved color correction as well as adjusting the lighting to achieve the desired mood. Despite using a simple setup and equipment, the editing process in Photoshop allowed me to elevate the visual appeal of the photographs, aligning them with the aesthetic I wanted.
Design
I formatted my recipe on InDesign using a multi-column grid. I organized the content in a visually pleasing manner, allowing for easy readability. By applying paragraph and character styles, I maintained consistency throughout the document, ensuring a cohesive look and feel.
Typography and Style
To inject personality into the design, I carefully selected fonts that complemented each other. Opting for a playful display font for headings, I paired it with a clean and simple body font, creating a striking contrast that added visual interest while ensuring it was still easy to read.
